Computational Modeling and Structural Assessment with Special Emphasis on Masonry Structures and Cultural Heritage

The grand challenges and uncertainties we face in the first quarter of the 21st century, related to the durability, seismic performance, and resilience of existing buildings and cultural heritage, have been a pressing issue in research. Aging and already deteriorated building stock under the extreme climate conditions and various loading scenarios is a significant concern worldwide. In this context, cutting-edge computational methods and innovative destructive/nondestructive structural assessment techniques play an important role in accurately predicting the as-is condition and structural performance of historical constructions, old or newly built masonry buildings.

To this end, the proposed special collection seeks high-quality scientific contributions focused on the computational modeling and structural assessment of masonry structures and cultural heritage. Given the emphasis of the collection, we invite original contributions on computational limit-state analysis, advanced continuum- and discontinuum-based modeling of masonry structures, documentation-to-analysis frameworks, material characterization, large-scale testing of masonry structures, case studies, and critical literature reviews.
