KUR’ÂN-I KERİM’İN MUHAFAZA TARİHİ VE MODERN ÖZBEK TEFSİR LİTERATÜRÜNDE ANLAM AKTARIMI
Öz
Kur’ân-ı Kerim’in nüzul sürecinden başlayarak günümüze kadar uzanan tarihsel serüvenini merkeze alan bu çalışma; ilahi kelamın muhafaza edilme süreci, tefsir geleneğinin teşekkülü ve Özbek literatüründe gerçekleştirilen tercüme ve tefsir faaliyetlerini bütüncül bir perspektifle ele almaktadır. Araştırma, Kur’ân metninin hem lafzî bütünlüğünün hem de anlam dünyasının korunmasına yönelik tarihsel çabaları, İslam ilim geleneğinin teşekkül süreciyle birlikte değerlendirmektedir. Bu bağlamda Kur’ân-ı Kerim’in Hz.

THE HISTORY OF THE PRESERVATION OF THE HOLY QUR'AN AND TRANSMISSION OF MEANING IN MODERN UZBEK EXEGESIS LITERATURE
Öz
This study centers on the historical journey of the Holy Qur'an, spanning from its revelation to the present day; it adopts a holistic perspective on the preservation of the divine word, the formation of the exegesis (tafsir) tradition, and the translation and exegesis activities within Uzbek literature. The research evaluates historical efforts to protect both the literal integrity and the semantic world of the Qur'anic text alongside the formation process of the Islamic scholarly tradition. In this context, the compilation of the Qur'an during the caliphate of Abu Bakr, its reproduction through codification (istinsakh) during the period of Uthman, and the development of punctuation and vocalization systems initiated by Abu'l-Aswad al-Du'ali to preserve the original structure of the Mushaf are addressed within a historical and philological framework. These processes reflect not only the physical preservation of the Qur'an but also the scholarly diligence and the security of recitation (qira’at) aimed at ensuring its correct understanding. In the Transoxiana basin, where the intellectual and scholarly foundations of Islamic civilization were shaped, the Qur'an was accepted as a foundational reference in the development of exegesis and linguistics; the transmission of meaning played a central role in the construction of Turkic-Islamic identity in this region. While Qur'an translations and interpretations (meals) serve as tools for direct public engagement with the divine word, the semantic shifts and linguistic limitations inherent in the nature of translation have made the need for exegetical literature inevitable. At this point, the study argues that translation is not merely a literal transfer but a process of re-signifying divine will in the target language, emphasizing the quality of exegesis that complements translation by encompassing it with context and depth. This approach necessitates treating the relationship between translation and exegesis as a complementary whole rather than a binary opposition. The main axis of the research consists of the works of Abdulaziz Mansur, Alaeddin Mansur, Oltinhan Tora, Muhammad Sadiq Muhammad Yusuf, and Usmanhan Alimov—leading figures of the modern Uzbek exegesis and translation tradition. Abdulaziz Mansur's translation is evaluated for its simple language and public-centered narrative; Alaeddin Mansur’s annotated translation for the balance it strikes between translation and exegesis; and Oltinhan Tora’s works for their relationship with the classical exegetical heritage and their ethical-Sufi emphasis. Muhammad Sadiq Muhammad Yusuf’s Tafsir-i Hilal is analyzed in terms of its pedagogical approach and methodical explanations catering to the contemporary reader, while Usmanhan Alimov’s Tafsir-i Irfan is examined through its holistic perspective that prioritizes the gnomic (irfani) interpretive tradition and merges religious truths with modern scientific data. These works are significant in revealing the methodological diversity and orientations gained by the Uzbek exegesis tradition in the modern era. A comparative analysis of these works demonstrates the function of the Uzbek Turkish vocabulary, syntactic structure, and modes of address in reflecting the layered structure of meaning. The original and applied aspect of the study constitutes a lexicological analysis of Surah Al-Kawthar. In this analysis, the common vocabulary choices, modes of address such as “thou-you” (informal/formal), use of synonyms, and semantic nuances employed by the commentators are compared in light of quantitative and qualitative data. The findings show that translation and exegesis preferences do not only carry linguistic concerns but are also conscious theological, methodological, and pedagogical choices directed at the target audience. In this regard, the study sheds light on macro-level translation and exegesis problems through a micro-level analysis of a single surah. Consequently, this study demonstrates that Qur'anic translation cannot be limited to mere linguistic accuracy; the religious, historical, and cultural depth contained in the verses must be conveyed through a holistic approach that is supported by the exegetical tradition and modernizes the region's deep-rooted scholarly heritage. Within this framework, the research aims to contribute to the re-evaluation of the position of Uzbek Qur'anic literature not only locally but also within the broader Turkic-Islamic exegetical tradition
