The "National Core Education Program (UCEP)" was prepared to determine and improve the basic standards of undergraduate medical education in medical faculties whose numbers are constantly increasing, and the current version of the graduate competency and proficiency certificate was published in 2020 within the scope of this program. The aim of this study was aimed to determine the compliance level of the Eskisehir Osmangazi University (ESOGU) medical education program to UCEP-2020, comparatively analyze the differences between the basic and clinical medical sciences. In the first stage, to determine which of the theoretical and practical activity contents in the training program cover the symptoms, clinical diseases and basic medicine practices in UCEP-2020 a software-supported database was created by all Departments and coordinators. In the next stage, a 3-day workshop was held with the education supervisors of all clinical departments; all data entries were checked, necessary corrections were made after mutual consultations, and the levels of basic medical practices taught in each internship were determined. The analysis of the data was carried out with a macro supported workbook design created with the Microsoft Office-Excel program. The topics covered during the first 3 classes (Basic Sciences) and following 4th and 5th internships (Clinical Sciences) of the ESOGU Faculty of Medicine education program were created as separate databases. Course titles taught by clinical sciences in the first 3 classes were not included in the analysis of Basic Sciences. While the clinical symptoms/signs/conditions and core diseases in UCEP-2020 are placed in rows, the courses taught in clinical sciences are grouped according to the cycles of the 4th and 5th internships. In basic medical sciences, on the other hand, matching was made with core diseases categorized according to organ systems instead of symptoms. As a result of the evaluations, it has been determined that the content of the ESOGU Faculty of Medicine Pre-Graduation Education Program has a very detailed and comprehensive content that completely meets the clinical symptoms, core diseases and basic medicine skills mentioned in UCEP-2020. It is seen that all of the clinical symptoms in the list were covered at the end of their 4th (47%) and 5th (53%) years of internship periods and were repeated in different clinics. The most frequently repeated clinical symptom/finding was “nausea-vomiting” because it was described by 18 different clinics; It was determined that 22 (67%) of the 33 symptoms described by at least 11 different departments correspond to the symptoms marked with "*" in the UCEP-2020 that are expected to be repeated frequently in the education programs. The recurrence frequency of core diseases in basic sciences (23%) is lower than clinical sciences (77%). It is seen that 54 (15.7%) of the 342 disease titles in the list are not included in any of the course contents categorized under Basic Medical Sciences in the first 3 grades, 44.4% of them are given place by only one and 25% of them are given by two different departments. In the upcoming academic years, these databases will be used in curriculum update studies to expand the coverage level of competencies recommended at the national level and also to include new topics in line with the vision and mission of our Faculty. The experience and impressions we gained during this study has shown that UCEP-2020 is not only an important guide in the preparation and evaluation of undergraduate medical education programs, but also a very useful document that medical students can use to check whether they have the minimum level of competence and proficiency.
