DISINFORMATION WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ALGORITHMIC SOCIETIES:AN ANALYSIS OF POLITICAL LEADERS

Öz

ABSTRACT This study analyses the propaganda visuals produced by governments and extremist groups with artificial intelligence, big data, and algorithms in the propaganda activities of algorithmic societies, especially during election periods when social turmoil plays a leading role. The focus of the study is on the contribution of these visual models to disinformation processes. In this context, the sample consists of disinformative images and videos produced with artificial intelligence image models for Donald Trump, the former President of the United States of America. Furthermore, it consists of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the former leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), a center-left political spectrum in Turkey, and disseminated on social media. The visual contents produced in question were analyzed by the researchers with descriptive analysis method and these artificial intelligence-supported visuals were evaluated in terms of ethics and privacy by determining the accuracy of these visuals. The study aims to understand how the visuals produced with artificial intelligence have an impact on the selection processes and to reveal the benefits and harms of these technologies. It also aims to make a new contribution to the literature by contributin.
