A KINDERGARTEN PLAYGROUND MURAL AS A SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECT: EVALUATING CHILDREN'S SPATIAL EXPERIENCE

This study explores the integration of social responsibility into the field of interior architecture through a mural design project implemented in a kindergarten play area. The project was developed by a team of faculty members and students from the Department of Interior Architecture, with the aim of enriching children’s spatial experience and promoting social benefit. The research adopts a case study approach, focusing on both the design and implementation process as well as user evaluations. The mural, designed to support the psychological, emotional, and perceptual needs of children aged 4-6, was applied to the playground walls of a kindergarten. User satisfaction was measured through surveys conducted with students and teachers. Findings indicate that 97.43% of the students and 100% of the teachers expressed positive responses to the mural design. The results highlight that the project not only enhanced the visual and functional qualities of the play area but also strengthened children’s engagement with the space. The study concludes that when social responsibility projects are aligned with disciplinary expertise, they generate higher levels of user satisfaction and societal benefit. It is recommended that future projects incorporate user feedback at early stages of the design process and extend similar applications to diverse educational settings.
