SUSTAINABILITY CULTURE IN PRINTMAKING: PRODUCTION, EDUCATION AND PUBLIC IMPACT

Öz

This study aims to examine the culture of sustainability in printmaking through a holistic approach encompassing production practices, art education, and social impact. The research is grounded in the assumption that sustainability should not be limited to the use of environmentally friendly materials but rather be considered as a transformative cultural structure that includes pedagogical, institutional, and public dimensions. The study is structured within a qualitative research framework and conducted through literature review, document analysis, and the examination of practice-based printmaking production processes. Within this scope, the effects of non-toxic inks, recyclable surfaces, and low-energy printmaking techniques on artistic production and educational environments were evaluated. The findings indicate that sustainable printmaking practices go beyond reducing environmental impact, transforming artists’ production habits and strengthening critical awareness in art education processes. It has been determined that educational programs and studio practices play a decisive role in integrating sustainability awareness into artistic practices. Furthermore, environmentally themed printmaking exhibitions and public art projects demonstrate significant potential to foster ecological awareness and a sense of social responsibility among audiences. In conclusion, the study reveals that sustainability in printmaking is not merely a technical preference, but a field of cultural transformation encompassing production, education, and public engagement. It emphasizes the necessity of disseminating this approach through art education curricula and institutional policies.
