THE AESTHETICS OF ERROR IN POST-DIGITAL ART: A PRACTICE-BASED EXPLORATION OF KNITTED STRUCTURES THROUGH 3D PRINTING

Dijital teknolojilerin gündelik yaşamda ve sanatsal üretim süreçlerinde giderek yaygınlaşması, 3B yazıcıların sanat alanında yalnızca deneysel bir araç olarak değil, aynı zamanda yerleşik bir üretim pratiği olarak kullanılmasına altlık oluşturmuştur. Bu durum, post-dijital bağlamda sanat ve teknoloji arasındaki ilişkinin yeniden düşünülmesini gerekli kılmakta; üretim sürecinin görünürlüğünü estetik tartışmaların önemli bir boyutu hâline getirmektedir. Bu çerçevede çalışma, post-dijital estetik, maddesellik ve süreç temelli sanat pratiklerine ilişkin güncel tartışmalarla ilişkilendirilmektedir. Araştırma, 3B baskı sürecinde ortaya çıkan sapmaların post-dijital sanat bağlamında hata estetiği üzerinden yaratıcı bir potansiyel olarak nasıl değerlendirilebileceğini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma, nitel bir yaklaşım çerçevesinde yürütülmüş; post-dijital sanat kuramına dayalı kavramsal analiz, çağdaş sanat pratiklerinin incelenmesi ve örme yapısına yönelik deneysel bir uygulama sürecini kapsamıştır. Değerlendirme süreci, baskı sırasında ortaya çıkan katman kaymaları, yüzey dönüşümleri ve malzeme tepkilerine ilişkin gözlemler üzerinden gerçekleştirilmiştir. Katman kaymaları, parametre sapmaları ve malzeme kaynaklı düzensizlikler, dijital üretimin kusursuzluk iddiasını sorgulayan estetik unsurlar olarak ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada kullanılan uygulama, dijital ilmeklerle oluşturulan bir yapıtın 3B baskı yoluyla somutlaştırılması bakımından örme sanatı alanında yeni bir perspektif sunmaktadır. Bulgular, üretim sürecinde ortaya çıkan hataların estetik ve yaratıcı üretimin bir parçası olarak değerlendirilebileceğini göstermektedir.

The increasing prevalence of digital technologies in daily life and artistic production processes has paved the way for 3D printers to be used not only as an experimental tool but also as an established production practice in the field of art. This situation necessitates a rethinking of the relationship between art and technology in the post-digital context, where the visibility of the production process becomes a crucial dimension of aesthetic discussions. The study engages with contemporary debates on post-digital aesthetics, materiality, and process-based art practices. This research aims to examine how deviations arising from the 3D printing process can be leveraged as creative potential within the context of post-digital art, through the aesthetics of error. The research was conducted within a qualitative approach; it encompassed conceptual analysis based on post-digital art theory, examination of contemporary art practices, and an experimental application process focusing on the weaving structure. The evaluation process was carried out through observations of layer shifts, surface transformations, and material responses that occurred during printing. Layer shifts, parameter deviations, and material-related irregularities have been considered as aesthetic elements that call into question the claim of perfection in digital manufacturing. The method used in this study offers a new perspective in the field of knitting art by materialising a work of art created with digital loops through 3D printing. The findings suggest that errors occurring during the production process can be considered a part of aesthetic and creative production.
