BIBLIOMETRIC AND SYSTEMATIC ANALYSIS OF FACADISM RESEARCHES IN THE WEB OF SCIENCE DATABASE

Facadism can be defined as preserving one or more facades of a historic building while constructing new structures on the rear side. It emerged in the UK in the 1960s, and various applications and academic studies on these applications have been conducted in this field to date. This article investigates studies conducted in the field of facadism and aims to provide both a bibliometric and systematic analysis. Within this scope, a bibliometric analysis was performed on facadism studies found in the Web of Science (WoS) database, which numbered 115 as of November 6, 2025. For the bibliometric analysis, the following data were extracted from the 115 studies examined: publication years, publication type, number of publications by country, disciplines of the studies, publication language, number of authors, citation rates, keyword analysis, and publication index. The VOSviewer program was also used for the visuals. The 28 studies selected from the 115 studies that were related to the true meaning of facadism were subjected to systematic content analysis. The systematic analysis section presents the number of authors in the studies, the number of studies in the field of facadism by author, the H-index, and author positions. It reveals the extent to which facadism, a critical issue in architectural conservation, has been studied and featured in the WoS database at the international level.
