Understanding the Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Tourism Industry

Öz

Koronavirüsün (2019-nCOV) ilk olarak 2020 Ocak ayında ne olduğu tam olarak anlaşılmış, 2020 Şubat ayı ile birlikte tüm dünyaya yayılmış ve 2020 Nisan ayında virüsün görülmediği ülke dünya üzerinde kalmamıştır. Koronavirüsün (Covid-19) ölümcül olduğu anlaşıldıktan sonra Dünya Sağlık Örgütü (DSÖ) pandemi olarak ilan etmiş ve bir dizi önlemler alınmasını tavsiye etmiştir. Bu doğrultuda sınırlar kapatılmış, toplu ulaşımlar kısıtlanmış ve birçok sosyal etkinlik iptal edilmiştir. Bu kısıtlamalardan da en çok etkilenen sektörlerden biri de turizm olmuştur. Ülkelerin sınırları kapatması ve seyahatlerin birçok ülkede durdurulması turizm faaliyetlerini yapılamaz hale getirmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı ise Covid-19 pandemisi üzerine yapılan daha önceki çalışmalardan turizm sektörü üzerine olan etkileri derlenmektir. Çalışma turizm işletmelerine pandemi devam ederken alabilecekleri önlemlerin neler olacağını da sunmaktadır. Pandemi krizinin bir sonucu olacak ekonomik krize karşı turizm işletmelerinin hazırlıklı olması önerilmektedir.

Understanding the Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Tourism Industry

Öz

The virus that belonged to the coronavirus family causing the disease defined as 2019-nCov was first identified in January 2020. It spread all over the world, and in April 2020, no countries were left in which coronavirus was not encountered. Following the fact that coronavirus (Covid-19) was found to be fatal, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it as a pandemic. In accordance with that, borders were closed, public transportation was restricted and lots of social events were canceled. One of the sectors mostly affected by these restrictions was the tourism industry. The purpose of this study is to compile the previous studies conducted on Covid-19 pandemic regarding its effects on the tourism industry. The study also offers tourism enterprises what measures they can take as pandemic continues. It is recommended that tourism enterprises should be prepared for economic difficulties that may arise as a result of the pandemic crisis.
