THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF THE METAVERSE: REDEFINING HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM IN THE DIGITAL AGE

Today, evolving technology and internet usage are reshaping the tourism and hospitality sectors through the integration of metaverse technologies that transcend physical limitations and deliver immersive, interactive, and personalized experiences. Virtual reality, augmented reality, and digital twins (digital models representing a virtual simulation of a physical object, system, or process) allow travelers to explore destinations, accommodations, and cultural sites before visiting, while map-based applications enhance navigation, security, and pre-travel planning. The study aims to define the transformative power of the metaverse for hospitality and tourism in the digital age. A literature review was used as the research method. This systematic method, which forms the theoretical and conceptual basis of the research, employed a visualized and comparative presentation tool using tables. Among the emerging findings are that metaverse technologies not only enhance the tourist experience but also create new opportunities for marketing, customer engagement, and sustainable travel practices. As virtual and physical experiences become increasingly intertwined, the metaverse is evolving from a complementary tool to a transformative platform that is redefining how people discover, interact, and experience tourism on a global scale.
