The primary responsibility of pediatricians is to protect the health of children It is always better to prevent a disease than to treat it Vaccines are very effective tools for the prevention of the diseases Some vaccines prevent disease not only in the people who receive them but also protect unvaccinated individuals who come into contact with them Following the impressive success of the smallpox eradication program the World Health Organization launched the Expanded Program on Immunization EPI in 1974 Since then the vaccines have been used successfully in the world and saved the millions lives of children However there is still a long way to go About three millions of children still continue to die from vaccine preventable diseases each year More childhood deaths nbsp; can be prevented if the available vaccines are used more effectively In the recent years our national immunization schedule has changed a lot For example Haemophilus influenzae type b and measles mumps rubella vaccines are added into the national immunization program In this paper the childhood nbsp; vaccination program in our country is reviewed Turk Arch Ped 2007; 42 Suppl: 26 35 Key words: Childhood Turkey vaccination schedule

Öz

Birinci basamak sağlık kuruluşlarında çalışan hekimlerin temel görevi çocuk sağlığının korunmasıdır Hastalıkların önlenmesi tedaviye göre her zaman daha etkili ve daha ucuzdur Aşılar hastalıkların önlenmesinde en temel araçlarımızdan biri olup bazı aşılar yalnız aşılananları değil aşılanmayan diğer kişileri de koruyabilir Çiçek hastalığının dünyadan yok edilmesiyle birlikte Dünya Sağlık Örgütü 1974 yılında Genişletilmiş Bağışıklama Programını uygulamaya koymuş ve o tarihten nbsp; beri uygulanan aşılar sayesinde her yıl milyonlarca çocuğun yaşamı kurtulmuştur Bununla birlikte daha bu konuda alınması gereken uzun bir yol vardır Halen dünyada her yıl üç milyon çocuk aşıyla önlenebilir hastalıklardan ölmeye devam etmektedir Mevcut aşıların daha etkili kullanımı ile çocuk ölümlerinin daha da azaltılması mümkündür Son yıllarda ulusal aşı takvimimizde önemli değişiklikler olmuştur Örneğin geçen yıl H İnfluenzae tip b Hib ve kızamık kabakulak kızamıkçık aşıları ulusal aşı takvimine eklenmiştir Bu yazıda ülkemizde çocukluk çağında uygulanan aşılar ve aşı takvimindeki değişiklikler gözden geçirilmiştir Türk Ped Arş 2007; 42 Özel Sayı: 26 35 Anahtar kelimeler: Aşı şeması çocukluk çağı Türkiye
