Parenteral Nutrition in Children

Öz

The availability of amino acid and lipid solutions used in parenteral nutrition give a chance of survival and growth to the infants who are not fed by the gastrointestinal route Today crystalized amino acid solutions are preferred as protein source 20 lipid solutions are better tolerated than 10 lipid solutions The peripheral veins are most preferably used during parenteral nutrition because less risk of infection exists compared to the central veins In addition to providing sufficient calorie intake in parenteral nutrition the supplement of essential elements vitamines minerals and electrolytes are also important The infants on parenteral nutrition must be followed carefully for probable complications Key words: Parenteral Nutrition Children
