Sinusitis in Childhood and Management

Öz

Acute sinusitis can be diagnosed in children who have persistent symptoms of more than two weeks duration such as nasal discharge and cough present in daytime Upper respiratory tract infection and allergic inflammation require symptomatic treatment whereas patients with sinusitis will benefit from specific antimicrobial therapy Ambulatory patient with acute and subacute illness have highlighted the important bacterial pathogens as Streptococcus pneumoniae Haemophilus influenza and Moraxella catarrhalis S pneumoniae is the most common in all age groups and accounts for 30 to 40 of isolates Amoxicilline is acceptable for the treatment of most cases in uncomplicated clinical situation Antimicrobials with comprehensive coverage for patients with acute bacterial sinusitis are amoxicillin clavulanate cefunixime axetil retpodoxime proxetil and azithromycin Jame authorities are recomminding treating patients with combination of amoxililline and amoxilillin clavunate each in two divided doses together This combination will be effective against most penicillin resistant S pneumoniae PRP and Beta lactamase producing bacterial species H influenzae Moraxella catarrovement in appropriate duration of antimicrobial therapy for patients with brisk response to antimicrobial intervention and dramatic improvement in respiratory symptoms with in 3 to 4 days are 10 days Key words: Sinusitis Childhood Therapy
