Environmental issues such as global warming, depletion of natural resources, environmental pollution and climate change are driving businesses to develop more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in their supply chains. This study aims to systematically reveal the driving forces that lead businesses towards green practices and the barriers that limit the implementation process by examining the fundamental dynamics that shape the implementation of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM). In this direction, studies in the field were searched in the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases, and relevant articles were evaluated. To determine the general trends in the literature, fundamental findings such as the keywords used in the studies reviewed and the countries with the highest number of publications were first examined. Subsequently, the methods used, sectoral contexts, and key findings were thematically categorised to establish a comprehensive framework. The findings show that regulatory pressures, customer demands, the search for competitive advantage, and the potential of green innovation to improve environmental performance are the main drivers of GSCM applications. However, high costs, lack of technical knowledge and infrastructure, low customer awareness, and insufficient cooperation among suppliers stand out as the main barriers to implementation.
