MİNUA/ŞAMRAM KANALI YAZITLARININ GÜNCEL DURUMU VE KANALIN YENİDEN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Öz

Urartuların, MÖ 9. yy. ile 7. yy. arasında, Van ve çevresinde kurmuş olduğu krallık yaklaşık 250 yıl bölgede hüküm sürmüştür. Kendinden önceki yaşam tarzını önemli oranda değiştirerek yeni bir siyasi, kültürel ve ekonomik oluşum başlatan Urartular yeni kent modellerinin ortaya çıkmasında öncü bir rol üstlenmişlerdir. Kurdukları yeni ve büyük organizasyon için suyu kendi formatlarına uygun bir şekilde yeniden planlamakta oldukça önemli bir role sahiptir. Yerleşimlerin su ihtiyacını karşılamak için su kanalları, barajlar, setler, su köprüleri, istinat duvarları ve sarnıçlar inşa eden Urartuların, Van merkezdeki en önemli su projelerinden biri Minua/Şamram Kanalı olarak bilinmektedir. Kanal, rezervuar alanı ile birlikte yaklaşık 55 km’lik bir uzunluğa sahiptir. Erek (Varag) Dağı’nın güneybatı etekleri boyunca devam eden kanalın inşası, kimi yerde kayaların oyulmasıyla devam etmiş; kimi yerde ise kil beden duvarları şeklinde vücut bulmuştur. Kanalın inşa programı içerisindeki en önemli kısımları içerisinde beden duvarları, istinat duvarları, köprüler ve yazıtlar bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Minua/Şamram Kanalı’nın önemli bir parçası olan yazıtların güncel durumları ele alınırken; aynı zamanda kanalın ismi üzerine bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır. Yazıtların kanalın hangi kısmına tekabül ettiği de çalışmada gösterilmektedir. İsmi üzerine yapılan değerlendirmede ise Şamram isminin kanalın asıl isminin önüne nasıl geçtiği üzerine bazı saptamalarda bulunulmuştur.

THE PRESENT CONDITION OF THE MINUA/ŞAMRAM CANAL INSCRIPTIONS AND A RE-EVELUATION OF THE CANAL

Öz

The Urartian kingdom, established in and around the Van region between the ninth and seventh centuries BCE, dominated the area for approximately 250 years. By profoundly transforming pre-existing lifeways, the Urartians initiated a new political, cultural, and economic order and played a formative role in the development of new urban models. Within the framework of this large-scale and centrally organized system, the deliberate restructuring and control of water resources constituted a fundamental component of state planning. To meet the water demands of their settlements, the Urartians constructed an extensive infrastructure that included canals, dams, embankments, aqueducts, retaining walls, and cisterns. One of the most significant hydraulic projects in the central Van region is the Minua/Šamram Canal. Including its associated reservoir system, the canal extends for approximately 55 km. Running along the southwestern slopes of Mount Erek (Varag), its construction involved bedrock cutting in certain sections, while in others it was realized through substantial earthen embankment walls. Key elements of the canal’s construction program comprise embankment walls, retaining walls, bridges, and inscriptions. This study focuses on the current condition of the inscriptions, which represent a crucial component of the Minua/Šamram Canal, while simultaneously reassessing the nomenclature of the canal itself. The spatial distribution of the inscriptions and their correspondence to specific segments of the canal are also documented. In addressing the issue of nomenclature, particular emphasis is placed on the processes through which the name Šamram came to supersede the canal’s original designation.
