IMITATION PRODUCTIONS OF THE THIN WALLED WARES GROUP FOUND IN TRALLEIS

Öz

Tralleis is introduced by Pliny, one of the ancient writers, as one of the important centers where Eastern Sigillata B Ceramics were produced. It has also been determined that, starting from the 1st century AD, local production of Thin Walled Wares was made in Tralleis, parallel to the Eastern Sigillata B Ceramics and contemporary with them. Sixteen ceramic items, which are the subject of this study and are preserved in the collections of the Aydın Museum today, were unearthed during the excavations carried out jointly by the Aydın Museum and Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Archeology, between 1996 and 2005. Sixteen materials, obtained from the excavations carried out in the Gymnasium and Arsenal building and consisting of imitations produced from forms belonging to the Thin Walled Wares Group, were examined in detail, and important conclusions were reached about their form development and typology, as well as their chronology and distribution areas. The finds included in the study date from the early stages of the 1st century AD to the 3rd century AD. They were examined throughout the period until the end of the century.

TRALLEİS’TE ELE GEÇEN İNCE DUVARLI SERAMİK (THİN WALLED WARES) GRUBUNA AİT TAKLİT ÜRETİMLER

Öz

Tralleis, Antik Çağ yazarlarından Plinius tarafından Doğu Sigillata B Seramiklerinin üretildiği önemli merkezlerden biri olarak tanıtılmaktadır. MS I. yüzyıldan itibaren ise Tralleis’te Doğu Sigillata B Seramiklerine koşut ve çağdaş biçimde İnce Duvarlı Seramik (Thin Walled Wares) Gruplarına yönelik yerel üretim yapıldığı da belirlenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında ele alınan malzemelerin İnce Duvarlı Seramik (Thin Walled Wares) Gruplarına ait üretimlerle tipolojik olarak benzer olmakla birlikte yerel nitelikli özellikler taşıdıkları gözlemlenmiştir. Aydın Müzesi koleksiyonlarında yer alan ve bu çalışma kapsamında incelenen on altı adet seramik 1996-2005 yılları arasında Aydın Müzesi ve Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi, Arkeoloji Bölümü’nün ortaklaşa yürüttüğü kazılar sırasında ele geçmiştir. Gymnasium ve Arsenal yapılarında gerçekleştirilen kazılardan elde edilen ve ayrıntılı olarak incelenen on altı adet malzemenin İnce Duvarlı Seramik Grubuna (Thin Walled Wares) ait formlardan geliştirilerek üretilmiş taklitlerden oluştukları değerlendirilmiş, form gelişimleri ve tipolojileriyle birlikte kronolojileri ve yayılım alanları hakkında önemli sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır. Çalışmada yer alan buluntular MS I. yüzyılın erken evrelerinden başlayarak MS III. yüzyılın sonuna değin geçen süreç içerisinde incelenmişlerdir.
