Elit Uluslararası Gençlik Futbolunda Göreceli Yaş Etkisi: 2025 FIFA U17 ve U20 Dünya Kupalarında Teknik Maç Göstergelerinin Karşılaştırılması

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, elit uluslararası gençlik futbolunda oyuncuların doğum çeyreği dağılımını incelemek ve seçilen teknik maç göstergelerinin göreceli yaş ve yaş kategorisine göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini araştırmaktır. Araştırma grubunu, 2025 yılında Katar’da düzenlenen FIFA U17 Dünya Kupası ve Şili’de düzenlenen FIFA U20 Dünya Kupası’na katılan toplam 2240 oyuncu oluşturmuştur. Kaleciler, oyun içindeki taktiksel rollerinin farklı olması nedeniyle analiz dışı bırakılmıştır. Oyuncular yaş kategorilerine (U17 ve U20) ve doğum çeyreklerine (BQ1–BQ4) göre sınıflandırılmıştır. Maç performansına ilişkin teknik veriler, FIFA’nın resmi performans analiz sistemleri olan TRACAB optik takip sistemi ve Enhanced Football Intelligence (EFI) platformu aracılığıyla elde edilmiştir. Analiz kapsamında, oyuncuların maç içi taktiksel katılımını ve teknik verimliliğini yansıtan doğrudan baskı eylemleri ve pas isabet yüzdesi incelenmiştir. İstatistiksel analizler, yaş kategorileri ve doğum çeyrekleri arasındaki farklılıkları belirlemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular, turnuvaya katılan oyuncuların %42’sinin yılın ilk çeyreğinde doğduğunu göstererek belirgin bir Göreceli Yaş Etkisi (RAE) bulunduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Pas isabet yüzdesi U20 kategorisinde U17 oyuncularına kıyasla anlamlı derecede daha yüksek bulunmuştur (p<0.001). Buna karşın doğrudan baskı sayıları yaş kategorileri arasında anlamlı bir farklılık göstermemiştir. U17 kategorisinde dördüncü doğum çeyreğinde doğan oyuncuların doğrudan baskı değerlerinin diğer çeyreklere göre daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir (p<0.05). Ancak U20 kategorisinde doğum çeyrekleri arasında teknik performans göstergeleri açısından anlamlı bir fark saptanmamıştır. Sonuç olarak, elit gençlik futbolunda göreceli yaş etkisinin seçim süreçlerinde devam ettiği görülmektedir. Bununla birlikte, göreceli yaşın teknik maç performansı üzerindeki etkisinin sınırlı olduğu ve özellikle üst yaş kategorilerinde bu etkinin azaldığı söylenebilir.

Relative Age Effects in Elite International Youth Soccer: A Comparison of Technical Match Indicators in the 2025 FIFA U17 and U20 World Cups

Öz

The aim of this study was to examine the birth-quarter distribution of players in elite international youth football and to investigate whether selected technical match indicators differ according to relative age and age category. The research sample consisted of a total of 2,240 players who participated in the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar and the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile. Goalkeepers were excluded from the analysis due to their different tactical roles during matches. Players were classified according to age categories (U17 and U20) and birth quarters (BQ1–BQ4). Technical match performance data were obtained through FIFA’s official performance analysis systems, namely the TRACAB optical tracking system and the Enhanced Football Intelligence (EFI) platform. Within the scope of the analysis, direct pressure actions and pass accuracy percentage, which reflect players’ tactical involvement and technical efficiency during matches, were examined. Statistical analyses were conducted to determine differences between age categories and birth quarters. The findings revealed that 42% of the players participating in the tournaments were born in the first quarter of the year, indicating a clear Relative Age Effect (RAE). Pass accuracy percentage was found to be significantly higher in the U20 category compared to U17 players (p < 0.001). However, the number of direct pressure actions did not show a significant difference between age categories. In the U17 category, players born in the fourth birth quarter demonstrated higher direct pressure values compared to the other quarters (p < 0.05). In contrast, in the U20 category, no significant differences were found between birth quarters in terms of technical performance indicators. In conclusion, the findings suggest that the Relative Age Effect continues to persist in the selection processes of elite youth football. However, the influence of relative age on technical match performance appears to be limited, and this effect seems to decrease particularly in higher age categories.
