This study examines the relationship between personality traits and professional suitability among social work students. Personality assessment was conducted based on the Five-Factor Personality Model (emotional stability, extraversion, openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness) and the Dark Triad (narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy). Professional suitability was measured across four dimensions: ethical values, social sensitivity, practical competence, and personal appropriateness. Utilizing a quantitative research method, data collected from 277 social work students were analyzed through regression analysis. Findings indicate that openness to experience, emotional stability, and agreeableness have a positive effect on professional suitability, while psychopathy has a negative impact. Contrary to the existing literature, narcissism was found to have a positive influence on professional suitability in the field of social work. This may suggest that certain narcissistic tendencies could functionally contribute to professional alignment by enhancing social acceptance and self-esteem. On the other hand, no significant relationship was found between extraversion or Machiavellianism and professional suitability. The results underscore the importance of considering personality traits, alongside academic performance, in social work education, and suggest that future research should involve more diverse samples and mediating variables.
