Today, with the increase in the elderly population, the incidence of neurodegenerative diseases and dementia has increased. In Turkey, as in the world, aging population is increasing rapidly. While elderly people are mostly looked after by family members, close friends and relatives, institutional care is also offered as an important service besides home care. The feelings, thoughts and problems experienced by the care givers working at institutions can affect the quality, structure and content of the service. The research was carried out to determine the factors affecting the burden of care givers working in the Nursing Home and Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Centres in Ankara and the problems they experience. The study was carried out between October and November 2014 with 202caregivers working in the Nursing Home and Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center in Ankara. The Zarit Care Burden Scale (ZCBS) was used to determine the care load of elderly care givers in the study. The average score of the care givers in the survey is 43 from ZCBS. Since the lowest point to be taken from this scale is 22 and the highest score is 87 (range: 0-88), it can be said that the work loads of the care givers are moderate. It was determined that the age and job satisfaction were effective (p <0,05) whereas gender, marital status, education status, seniority and income were not effective on their work load. It is observed that many care givers suffered from sleep disturbance, physical fatigue, back pain, headache, ulcer and gastritis. Elderly care is a difficult task due to the essence. Caregivers are faced with various problems in terms of psychological, social, economic and health. Solving the problems experienced by caregivers and supporting and strengthening the care process can play an active role to increase the quality of care presented to the elderly.
