The aim of this study is to delineate the reasons of divorce, which has been observed with increasing frequency in recent years in Turkey, and to determine difficulties encountered by divorced individuals following divorce. This research was carried out in the form of relational screening model. Data was collected by the survey “Reasons of Divorce and Difficulties Encountered afterwards” prepared by the researchers. The data was analysed and interpreted using SPSS program by means of frequency and percentage distributions with chi-square test method. Based on findings obtained as a result of statistical analysis, “adultery”, “verbal and/or physical violence”, “bad habits” and “financial difficulties” were among the most frequent reasons of divorce. These reasons were observed to be more frequent among women compared to men. It is observed that the subjects indicating “oral and/or physical violence” as the main reason of divorce are the individuals who had arranged marriages without their will. Moreover, it is seen that the rate of applying for mental health support was higher among individuals who divorced due to violence. Furthermore, it was found that individuals without children experienced more mental/psychological distress than individuals with children following divorce; however, as the number of children increased, the economic distress was observed to increase as well. It can be concluded that in general, problems experienced following divorce caused more difficulties in the livelihood of individuals with lower income.
