MEME KANSERİ HASTALARININ BAŞ ETME STRATEJİLERİNİN SOSYO-DEMOGRAFİK DEĞİŞKENLER AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Öz

Gerekçe: Meme kanseri ülkemizde en sık rastlanan kanser türlerinden biridir. Yol açtığı psikososyal sorunlar ve stres nedeniyle hastaların başetme stratejilerini kullanmasını gerektirir. Hastalarla psiko-sosyal iyilik hali için çalışmalar yapan profesyonellerin bireyin baş etme stratejilerini etkileyen değişkenlerin farkında olarak çalışmalar yapmaları gereklidir. Amaç: Bu çalışmada meme kanseri hastalarının baş etme stratejilerinin ortaya çıkarılması ve kullandıkları başetme stratejileri ile sosyodemografik değişkenler arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Kanserle Mücadeleyi Destekleme Derneği’nden destek alan meme kanseri hastası 151 kadın çalışmanın örneklemini oluşturmaktadır. Bu betimleyici niceliksel çalışmada veri toplamak amacıyla Başa Çıkma Stratejileri Kısa Formu Brief-COPE ve araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan sosyodemografik bilgi formu kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Katılımcıların meme kanseri ile baş etme süreçlerinde en çok, dikkatini başka yöne yöneltme ve aktif başa çıkmayı; en az ise duyguları açığa vurmayı kullandıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Katılımcıların başetme stratejileri çeşitli değişkenlere göre değişim göstermekte olup 41-50 yaş arası olanların kabullenme tutumlarının; lisans ve üstü mezunu olanların reddetme tutumları puanının, tedavi gördüğü süre 2-3 yıl arası olanların duygusal sosyal destek arama ve kendini suçlama stratejilerinin yüksek olduğu; tedavi gördüğü süre 3 yıl üstü olanların amaca yönelik sosyal destek arama tutumlarının ve bekâr olanların ise kabullenme tutumu puanı en yüksek olduğu görülmüştür. Psikolojik destek alanların özellikle ölçeğin Planlama alt boyutundan aldıkları puan daha yüksektir. Sonuç: Baş etme stratejileri hastaların yaşamını çeşitli şekillerde etkilemektedir bunun yanında kadınların bio-psiko-sosyal durumları ve tedavi süreçleri gibi değişkenler de baş etme stratejilerini etkilemektedir. Bütüncül iyilik halinin sağlanması için başetme stratejilerinin tanımlanması ve psikososyal destek programları doğrultusunda bireysel ve grup çalışmaları düzenlenmesi gereklidir

ANALYSIS OF BREAST CANCER PATIENTS’ COPING STRATEGIES IN TERMS OF SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC VARIABLES

Öz

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancer types in our country. It is necessary that patients use coping strategies because of psychosocial problems and stress. Professionals working with patients for their psycho-social wellbeing need to be aware of the variables affecting coping strategies. Aims: In this study, it is aimed to investigate coping strategies and the relationship between coping strategies of breast cancer patients and socio-demographic variables. Materials and Method: The sample includes 151 women with breast cancer who received support from the Cancer Struggle Support Association. In this descriptive quantitative study, Brief-COPE and socio-demographic information form prepared by researcher are used for collecting data. Findings: It is reached that participants' coping processes with breast cancer most commonly use self-distraction and active coping; whereas they use revealing emotions at the very least. Participants' coping strategies show a change according to various variables, it is seemed that acceptance attitudes of those aged 41-50, scores of rejection attitudes of graduates and undergraduates, self-blame and seeking emotional support strategies those with a period of 2-3 years of treatment are high; attitudes of social assistance seeking those with a period of above 3 years of treatment and acceptance attitude score of single patients are highest. Participants using psychological support have a higher score particularly in the Scale Planning subscale. Conclusions: Besides the coping strategies influence the lives of the patients in various ways variables such as the bio-psychosocial situation of patients and treatment processes effect coping strategies. In order to ensure that individuals’ holistic wellbeing; it needs to be described coping strategies and organized individual and group works in line with psychosocial support programs
