Öz

Makro tarih anlatılarında detay olarak kalan veya göz ardı edilen olay, olgu ve aktörlerin yeni veri ve sorularla belli bir bağlam etrafında incelenmesi, Osmanlı tarih yazıcılığına son yıllarda yön veren çalışmaların öne çıkan özelliğidir. Nilay Özok-Gündoğan’ın kitabı, bu türden bir çalışmaya örnektir. Yazar, emirlik/mirlikler tarihi ekseninde araştırmacıların daha çok ilgisini çeken Botan, Soran ve Baban gibi Kürt Mirliklerinin dışında kalan ve nüfuz alanı görece daha küçük olan Palu Mirliğini inceleyerek özgünlük iddiasını en başta ortaya koyuyor. Tabii bu iddia, kitap boyunca inşa edilen kurgu, sorulan sorular ve verilen cevaplarla daha da somutlaşıyor. İçeriğinden önce kitabın kurgusuna bakarsak giriş ve sonuç bölümlerinin yanı sıra okuyucunun olay örgüsünün içinde kaybolmasını engelleyen ara başlıklara sahip üç ana bölümden oluşuyor. Sonunda ise bir kaynakça listesiyle beraber sınırlı içerikte kişi ve terimler sözlüğü, bir ek not ve indeks bulunuyor. Yazar, anlatısını oluştururken ona geniş yorum ve analiz kapısı açacak nitelikte Osmanlı ve İngiliz Arşivleri, döneme dair yayınlanmış belge koleksiyonları ve güncel literatürden faydalanıyor. Ayrıca kitapta sınırlı sayıda olsa da görsel unsur (resim ve harita) ve sayısal veriler (tablolar) mevcuttur.

Öz

The examination of events, facts and actors that remain as details or are overlooked in macro historical narratives, within a specific context using new data and questions, is a prominent feature of studies that have shaped Ottoman historiography in recent years. Nilay Özok-Gündoğan's book is an example of this type of study. The author first puts forward her claim of originality by examining the Palu Emirate, which had relatively a smaller area of influence and was excluded from the Kurdish Emirates such as Botan, Soran and Baban, which attracted more attention of researchers in the context of the history of emirates/mirliks. Of course, this claim becomes more concrete with the questions asked, the answers given, and the narrative constructed throughout the book. If we look at the structure of the book before its content, it consists of three main chapters with subheadings that prevent the reader from getting lost in the plot, in addition to the introduction and conclusion chapters. At the end of the book, there is a bibliography, a limited glossary of terms and personalities, an additional note, and an index. While constructing her narrative, the author benefits from Ottoman and British archives, published collections of documents from the period, and contemporary literature, which open doors to extensive interpretation and analysis. In addition, although limited in number, the book contains visual elements (pictures and maps) and numerical data (tables).
