The aim of this study is
to determine parents’ beliefs about mathematics homeworks and role and involvement
on their child’s math homework. In the present study, survey method was used
and data were gathered through an instrument “Parental Involvement
Questionnaire on Mathematics Homeworks” developed by the researchers. The
sample of the study involved 215 parents of students chosen randomly from 1st
-8th grades in İzmir at the end of the academic year 2014-2015. The survey
results indicates that the parents believe that homework has positive effect on
achievement in mathematics and in parallel to this, they support their
children's math homework. On the other hand the findings reveals that a
substantial proportion of the participants are not sure about right support
while helping your children’s homework and do not have a support from teachers
in this regard.
