Ibn Hisham al-Ansari, -who studied syntax (nahiv) of
Arabic - was born in Cairo which had turned out to be a center for culture and
science under Mamluks. Rarely did he leave Cairo where he availed brilliant
scholars of his era, thanks to whom his fame went beyond the borders while they
were still alive. Ibn Hisham, who Ibn Haldun called “more like a grammarian
than Sîbeveyh”, put forth many works. His prolificacy in discipline produced el-Câmi‘u’s-sağîr
fî’n-nahv which marked Ibn Hisham’s depth and authenticity in syntax
(Nahv).
