Bariatrik Cerrahi İçin Başvuran Hastalarda Kilo Öz-Damgalaması ile Toplumsal Cinsiyet Rolü Tutumları Arasındaki İlişki

Öz

Amaç: Bu tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel çalışma, bariatrik cerrahi için başvuran hastalarda kilo öz-damgalaması ile toplumsal cinsiyet rolü tutumları arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemeyi amaçlamıştır.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bariatrik cerrahi için başvuran 111 hasta arasında tanımlayıcı kesitsel bir çalışma yürütüldü. Veriler, tanımlayıcı bir bilgi formu, Kilo Öz-Damgalama Anketi ve Cinsiyet Rolleri Tutum Ölçeği kullanılarak toplandı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde Kolmogorov-Smirnov testi, Cronbach alfa güvenilirlik analizi, aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma ve Pearson korelasyon analizi kullanıldı.Bulgular: Katılımcıların %64,9’unun kadın olduğu ve %44,1’inin 31–50 yaş aralığında bulunduğu saptanmıştır. Hastaların %68,5’inin sınıf 3 obeziteye sahip olduğu ve %76,6’sının sekiz yıldan uzun süredir kilo problemi yaşadığı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca katılımcıların %30,6’sının aynadaki beden yansımalarından memnun olmadıkları için ameliyat olmaya karar verdikleri bulunmuştur. Toplam kilo özdamgalama ölçeği puanı ile kadın cinsiyet arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı ilişki bulunmuştur (r=.348; p <0,05).Sonuç: Toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri tutumları ile kilo öz-damgalaması arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir.

The Relationship Between Weight Self-Stigma and Gender Role Attitudes in Patients Presenting for Bariatric Surgery

Öz

Aim: This cross-sectional study was designed to examine the association between weight self-stigma and attitudes toward gender roles among individuals seeking bariatric surgery.Material and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive approach was adopted in this study, which involved 111 patients evaluated for bariatric surgery. Information was collected using a form covering sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, together with the Weight Self-Stigma Questionnaire (WSSQ) and the Gender Roles Attitude Scale (GRAS). The collected data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Cronbach’s alpha for internal consistency, mean and standard deviation for descriptive purposes, Pearson’s correlation analysis to assess associations between variables, and hierarchical multiple linear regression to examine the contribution of the study variables to the outcome. Results: Of the participants, 64.9% were women, while 44.1% were between 31 and 50 years of age. Class III obesity was identified in 68.5% of the participants, and 76.6% reported experiencing weight-related problems for more than eight years. In addition, 30.6% indicated that dissatisfaction with their body image when looking in the mirror was a reason for deciding to undergo bariatric surgery. A statistically significant positive association was observed between female gender and total weight self-stigma scores (r = .348, p < .05).Conclusion: The findings indicate a significant association between gender role attitudes and weight self-stigma among patients seeking bariatric surgery. These findings highlight the importance of considering gender-related perceptions when evaluating weight-related self-stigma in this population.
