Evaluation of Opinions of Teachers Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language on Distance Education

Öz

The aim of this study is to evaluate the opinions of teachers who teach Turkish as a foreign language on the use of distance education in educational activities. In line with this purpose, 387 teachers, who were reached through criterion sampling, and who worked in institutions that taught Turkish as a foreign language for at least one year with distance education in Turkey during the pandemic process, were invited to participate in the study. 96 teachers who agreed to participate in the study voluntarily formed the study group. The data obtained from this study, which was carried out with the phenomenology method, one of the qualitative research methods, was evaluated using descriptive analysis. According to the research findings, 63% of the teachers found distance education beneficial, 34% found it useless, and 2% did not express an opinion. More than half of the teachers who found distance education beneficial in teaching Turkish as a foreign language stated that distance education could be beneficial due to the fact that distance education is not the main element of teaching, but a supporting element, students' individual learning motivation is high, language learning motivation is provided, and due to extraordinary conditions such as global epidemics and natural disasters. Teachers who do not find distance education beneficial stated that interaction in distance education is insufficient.
