Biçimin Yaşamı: Henri Focillon'un Sanat Kuramında Morfoloji, Zaman ve Maddesellik

Öz

Bu makale, Henri Focillon’un biçimci sanat kuramını incelemektedir. Focillon'un kuramı, biçimin yerleşik konumlanışını sorgulayarak onu kendi iç yasaları ve dinamik süreçleriyle işleyen bir olgu olarak değerlendirir. Çalışmanın temel amacı, Focillon’un biçim kavramına getirdiği yaklaşımı ortaya koymak ve sanat tarihi yazını üzerindeki kuramsal yansımalarını tartışmaktır. Bu amaçla, Focillon’un entelektüel ve siyasal gelişim çizgisi takip edilerek bu arka planın, biçimci kuramının oluşumunda ne ölçüde etkili olduğu ortaya konmaktadır. Analitik bir yöntemle Focillon’un birincil metinlerini inceleyen çalışma, bu incelemeyi ikincil kaynaklardaki eleştirel yorumlarla desteklemektedir. Biçim, üslup, metamorfoz, zamansallık gibi temel kavramsal kategorilere dayanan sistematik bir analiz yoluyla, Focillon’un düşüncesi sanat tarihi içindeki daha geniş kuramsal çerçevede konumlandırılmaktadır. Bulgular, Focillon’un biçimi devingen ve kendini üreten bir olgu olarak ele alışının, sanata ilişkin statik ve indirgemeci modellere güçlü bir karşı önerme sunduğunu göstermektedir. Bu yaklaşımla sanat tarihi, doğrusal bir anlatıdan ziyade, biçimlerin sürekli dönüşümüyle şekillenen morfolojik bir süreklilik olarak yeniden tasavvur edilmektedir.

The Life of Form: Morphology, Time, and Materiality in Henri Focillon's Theory of Art

Öz

This article examines the formalist art theory of Henri Focillon. Focillon's theoretical framework challenges the conventional positioning of form by redefining it as a phenomenon governed by its own internal laws and dynamic processes. The primary objective of this study is to elucidate Focillon's distinctive approach to the concept of form and to discuss its theoretical implications for the historiography of art. To this end, the study traces Focillon's intellectual and political development, demonstrating the extent to which this background influenced the formation of his formalist theory. Employing an analytical method, the research conducts a close reading of Focillon's primary texts, supported by critical interpretations from secondary sources. Through a systematic analysis grounded in key conceptual categories such as form, style, metamorphosis, and temporality. Focillon's thought is situated within the broader theoretical framework of art history. The findings indicate that Focillon's conception of form as a dynamic and self-generating phenomenon offers a powerful counter-proposal to static and reductive models of art. Consequently, this approach reconceives art history not as a linear narrative, but as a morphological continuum shaped by the perpetual transformation of forms.
