Abstract
Aim: In this study, it is aimed to examine the environmental behaviors of future physician candidates and some factors that are thought to be related in the context of drawing attention to environmental problems that are still one of the important problems in the world today.
Materials and Methods: The population of the cross-sectional study consists of 110 physician candidates studying at the Faculty of Medicine of a university located in the Central Anatolia Region. The research was carried out with 78 students (73.6%) who agreed to participate in the study. The questionnaire form includes the Environmental Behavior Scale and some variables that are thought to affect environmental behavior and opinions. SPSS 20.0 package program was used to analyze the data.
Results: 31.2% of the participants were male and 75.6% of them stated that they were sensitive to environmental problems. The mean total score obtained from the scale is 60.76±11.4, and the highest scores obtained from the sub-dimensions are “Resource Conservation Activities for the Economic Benefit of the Person” [13.00 (11.00-14.00)], “Nature-Related Leisure Activities” (12.06±0.37) and “Environmentally Conscious Consumer” [12.00 (10.00-13.00)].
Conclusion: Although the environmental behaviors of the physician candidates were found to be quite positive, it was concluded that their behaviors differed according to their sensitivity to environmental problems and their sexes.
