LUXURY CONSUMPTION IN THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT: THE IMPACT OF CULTURAL DIFFERENCES AND ONLINE SHOPPING FREQUENCY ON PURCHASING PRACTICES

Öz

The rapid spread of digitalization and luxury brands becoming more active on online platforms have led to significant changes in consumer behavior. While luxury consumption refers to individuals' orientation towards products and services that they perceive as indicators of social status and prestige beyond meeting their basic needs, digital purchasing has emerged as an alternative form of shopping that enables individuals to access products and services independently of time and space via the internet. The increase in digital purchasing opportunities and channels with digitalization has led to an increase in the variety of products and services offered in these environments, and thus the procurement of luxury consumption products through digital channels has become widespread. Both luxury consumption trends and digital purchasing behaviors are concepts that are shaped by cultural differences and are important elements that should be evaluated in this context. This study examines how cultural contexts shape the way luxury products are purchased digitally and the relationship between luxury consumption tendency and digital purchasing behavior. The research, which was conducted on national and international students living in Karabük province, analyzed whether luxury consumption tendencies and digital purchasing behaviors differ in terms of cultural differences. As a result of the analysis, a positive relationship was found between the tendency towards luxury consumption and digital purchasing behavior; it was determined that individuals with a high tendency towards luxury consumption shop more frequently on digital platforms. In addition, it has been revealed that online shopping frequency significantly affects both luxury consumption tendency and digital purchasing behavior. Research findings show that luxury consumption has gained a new dimension through digital platforms, individuals' consumption preferences have been reshaped with digitalization, and consumption patterns have adapted to digital transformation and changing world conditions.
