This study aims to examine the effect of the demographic profiles of esports players and traditional athletes on their multiple intelligence profiles. A descriptive survey model and questionnaire method were used in the research. The study group consisted of a total of 720 participants (315 esports, 405 traditional sports), comprising esports players registered with the Turkish Esports Federation and students engaged in licensed sports at the Kırkpınar Faculty of Sports Sciences, Trakya University. Data were collected using the “Personal Information Form” and the “Multiple Intelligence Scale,” which consists of 9 sub-dimensions. Data analysis involved the application of the Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U, Independent Samples t-Test, and ANOVA tests. The research findings revealed that esports players exhibit a statistically significant higher aptitude in the areas of logical and visual intelligence, while traditional athletes demonstrate a statistically significant higher aptitude in the areas of bodily-kinesthetic, naturalistic, and existential intelligence. Based on the gender variable, it was found that men are more dominant in bodily-kinesthetic and visual-spatial intelligence, while women are more dominant in logical-mathematical and intrapersonal intelligence. As the number of years of education increases (9+ years), levels of interpersonal and logical-mathematical intelligence were observed to rise. In terms of educational level, it was determined that college graduates are closer to the level of logical-mathematical intelligence compared to high school graduates. The study found that those living in urban centers excel in visual and logical intelligence, while those in rural areas excel in naturalistic intelligence. In conclusion, intelligence profiles are not static; rather, they emerge as a flexible structure that is in constant interaction with the individual’s competitive ecosystem, academic background, and socio-cultural environment.
Note: This study is based on the doctoral dissertation titled “The Effect of the Types of Intelligence Possessed by Esports Players and Traditional Athletes on Leadership Traits and Creative Personality Traits,” prepared within the Doctoral Program in Sports Management Sciences at the Institute of Health Sciences, Marmara University.
