POTANSİYEL HÂLDE: TRUE DETECTIVE VE KUVVETLİ BİR ALKIŞ DİZİLERİNDE ANTİNATALİZM

Öz

Makale, depresif gerçekçiliğin ve antinatalizmin sırasıyla suç dramı ve kara komedi türlerindeki True Detective (2014) ve Kuvvetli bir Alkış (2024) dizilerinde nasıl temsil edildiğini inceler. Antinatalizmin kurguda nadiren temsil edilmesinin nedenlerinden iyimserlik yanlılığı, geleneksel anlatının yapısal sınırlılığı ve üreme odaklı gelecek anlayışını kötümserci felsefeyle çelişmeleri açısından tartışır. Antinatalizm, potansiyel çocuğun çıkarlarını göz önünde bulunduran felsefi bir konumdur ve kurgusal bir temsil halinde bu, onu bir karakterle bağdaştıracak, doğal kurgusal dünyalarda yerleşik bir özne pozisyonu olmadığı anlamına gelir. True Detective, hem antinatalizm hem de depresif gerçekçilik bakış açılarını net bir biçimde yansıtır. Ancak sezonun sonuna geldiğimizde, onun kötümserci dünya görüşünün duygusal bir dönüşüm yoluyla açıklandığını ve sınırlandırıldığını görürüz. Kuvvetli bir Alkış ise bu engeli aşar çünkü doğal olmayan bir karakter ve anti-mimetik bir mekan aracılığıyla bir fetüse bilinç ve ifade yetisi atfeder. Varoluş öncesi özne konumu tasarlandığında, antinatalist dünya görüşü bir patolojik durum ya da travma tepkisine indirgenmeden ifade edilir.

IN POTENTIA: ANTINATALISM IN TRUE DETECTIVE AND A ROUND OF APPLAUSE

Öz

This article explores how depressive realism and antinatalism are represented in two popular series: True Detective (2014) and A Round of Applause (2024), a crime drama and a dark comedy, while arguing that the representation of antinatalism is rare because it conflicts with reproductive futurism, optimism bias, and the structural demands of conventional storytelling. Antinatalism, as a philanthropic philosophical position, is concerned with the interests of a potential child and with regard to fiction, this means the position lacks a subject position that can be depicted in natural fictional worlds. True Detective explicitly engages with both depressive realism and antinatalism through one of its protagonists, Rust Cohle. Ultimately, however, his pessimistic worldview is contained by an emotional transformation and a renewal of hope. A Round of Applause avoids this retraction by assigning consciousness and voice to a fetus, constructing an unnatural or impossible character and an anti-mimetic space. Once this pre-existence subject position is established, the antinatalist perspective can be articulated without being reduced to a pathological condition or a trauma response.
