Yıl 2025, Cilt: 38 Sayı: ITEAC2024 - Kalite Süreçlerinde Dijital Dönüşüm, Uluslararasılaşma ve Kültürel Yaklaşımlar, 1 - 33, 29.10.2025

This systematic review aims to provide a comprehensive and multifaceted perspective on the character strengths of pre-service teachers and stakeholders in teacher education through a rigorous examination of the existing research on character strengths in teacher education. The literature review for the systematic review was conducted between August and October 2024 across multiple databases covering the period from 2000 to 2024. The review included 11 studies, evaluated by the PRISMA protocol and responsive to the research questions. The evaluation of these studies revealed that the most prominent character strengths among pre-service teachers are fairness, kindness, honesty, love, gratitude, leadership, and teamwork. Additionally, different character strengths emerge as particularly salient among pre-service teachers according to their gender, country and department. The study revealed that the virtue of wisdom was associated with the sub-dimensions of happiness, the virtue of transcendence was associated with life satisfaction, and the character strengths most closely linked to the psychological issues experienced by pre-service teachers were those under the virtue of courage. The results indicated that the intervention studies had a beneficial effect on both the participants' personal well-being and their professional development. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that character strengths play a significant role in teacher education and development.

A Systematic Review of the Character Strengths in Teacher Education
