Digital activist movements are highly effective in expressing ideas to the masses. Among these, the most widely used type of hashtag activism is on the Twitter social media platform. The aim of this study is to examine some features (rate, ground) of the supportive and opposing tweets posted under the title of "Istanbul Convention", which has national and international importance, and the content of the tweets opposing the convention, through discourse analysis. For this purpose, 252 tweets shared on Twitter between April 1, 2020 and November 20, 2020 with the tags "#istanbulsozmesi", "istanbulsozlesmesiyasatir" and "#istanbulsozmesiihanettir" were selected and handled randomly. Then, the contents of these selected tweets were examined and categorized into two groups as supporting and opposing the contract. These categorization was carried out by two independent researchers. The percentage of consensus between the researchers among the coders was calculated as 95%. Afterwards, discourse analysis was made on the tweets in the opposing category. According to the findings, the number of tweets supporting and opposing regarding the Istanbul Convention were close to each other. The grounds of discourses opposing the convention were often in the form of disrupting the family structure, not preventing violence and preparing the ground for LGBTI. These reasons of opposing discourses have been discussed within the framework of the content of the İstanbul Convention and the related literature. In addition, after the completion of this study, it was announced that the Republic of Turkey withdrew from the Istanbul Convention. Following this decision, changes may have occurred in the content of tweets that oppose the contract. In this respect, it is important to re-examine the posts on the subject.
