Since the 1960s, through the agency of psychohistory, the answers to the "how" question, which is directed to historical events and facts in order to understand the past, has been searched via psychological motivations being at the centre. Freud, the founding father of psychoanalysis, is widely regarded as the author of the first psychohistory (and psychobiography) study. Yet, E. Erikson's Young Man Luther (1958) is accepted as the first academic psychohistory study, and Erikson is seen as the founding father of psychohistory. Psychohistory, from Freud to Erikson and Lifton to Kohut, as a field that approaches history with various psychology-oriented methods, has not yet reached the level of comprehensive scopes and activities of economic, social, and cultural history. However, it is worth pointing out that, psychohistory has preserved its existence and even developed different approaches until today which is sufficient justification for focusing on the field.
