INVESTIGATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE OF OECD COUNTRIES BY DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS
Öz
The environmental performance of a country is a common issue that is not only related to itself, it also concerns country’s neighbors and the rest of the world too. Therefore, environmental pollution is not the problem of only one country too, and similar tasks fall to each country to prevent pollution. Local actions lead to global environmental change, national policies have an impact beyond the borders of the country, and short-term decisions often have lasting consequences. Because of environmental health is at the center of human prosperity, the aim of this study is to analyze the environmental performance of OECD countries and to examine the situation of Turkey among these countries, using the current Environmental Performance Index data that reflects global synergies in environmental issues and describes these truths. Since more than one output variables are included in the analysis, Data Envelopment Analysis has been used to calculate performance efficiencies. The EMS 1.03 package program has been used for efficiency analysis of data, and the output-oriented CCR model has been handled since output variables are wanted to be controlled. Analyses have been made for effective and ineffective countries and suggestions have been given. In addition, comparison of environmental performance indices and efficiency results has been provided.
