SPACE AS VİSUAL NARRATİVE: EXHİBİTİON DESİGN, LİGHTİNG, AND VİSİTOR EXPERİENCE İN THE ŞANLIURFA MUSEUM

Öz

This study examines the impact of exhibition design, lighting, and spatial narrative on visitor experience at the Şanlıurfa Museum from a visual communication design perspective. The museum space is approached not merely as a physical environment for displaying artifacts but as a visual narrative that generates meaning, fosters emotional interaction, and reconstructs cultural memory. The research was conducted within a qualitative framework, employing descriptive analysis and visual analysis methods. Field observations, photographic documentation, and document reviews carried out in the Şanlıurfa Archaeology and Mosaic Museum were analyzed to evaluate how the museum’s spatial design aligns with the principles of contemporary museology. The findings reveal that the museum space creates a mental route through elements such as light, color, and spatial orientation, offering visitors a holistic experience on visual, historical, and emotional levels. In this context, the study discusses how space functions as a medium of communication and how the language of this narrative shapes the contemporary museum experience.

GÖRSEL ANLATI OLARAK MEKÂN: ŞANLIURFA MÜZESİ’NDE SERGİLEME, IŞIK VE ZİYARETÇİ DENEYİMİ

Öz

Bu çalışma, Şanlıurfa Müzesi’nin sergileme düzeni, ışık kullanımı ve mekânsal anlatısının ziyaretçi deneyimi üzerindeki etkisini görsel iletişim tasarımı perspektifinden incelemektedir. Müze mekânı, yalnızca eserlerin sergilendiği fiziksel bir alan değil; aynı zamanda anlam üreten, duygusal etkileşim kuran ve kültürel belleği yeniden kurgulayan bir görsel anlatı biçimi olarak ele alınmıştır. Araştırma, nitel araştırma yaklaşımı içinde betimsel analiz ve görsel analiz yöntemleriyle yürütülmüştür. Şanlıurfa Arkeoloji ve Mozaik Müzesi’nde yapılan alan gözlemleri, fotoğraf çözümlemeleri ve belge incelemeleriyle müze mekânının çağdaş müzecilik ilkeleriyle ne ölçüde örtüştüğü değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular, müze mekânının ışık, renk ve yönlendirme unsurları aracılığıyla zihinsel bir rota oluşturduğunu; ziyaretçiye görsel, tarihsel ve duygusal düzeyde bütüncül bir deneyim sunduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışma, mekânın bir iletişim aracı olarak nasıl anlam kurduğu ve çağdaş müze deneyiminin bu anlatı dilinden nasıl beslendiğini tartışmaktadır.
