The Integration of Climate Change and Regional Development within the Framework of Sustainable Development: The Case of Mediterranean Basin

Yıl 2025, Cilt: 3 Sayı: 2, 150 - 184, 28.10.2025

Öz

The strategic integration of climate change with regional development policies is of critical importance not only for environmental protection but also for ensuring economic stability and the sustainability of societal welfare. Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to analyze the relationship between climate change and regional development, and the integration provided by this relationship, using the example of the Mediterranean Basin. The unique characteristics of the Mediterranean Basin were examined in detail, and the research process was conducted using a three-stage method. In the first stage, the theoretical foundation of the study was established by reviewing the literature addressing the concepts of climate change and regional development. In the second stage, the strategic dimensions of the integration were conveyed within the framework of national and international legal regulations. In the third stage, concrete policy proposals for a sustainable and resilient future were developed through the case of the Mediterranean Basin.
