One of the main waqf works from the Ottoman period in the center of Old Halfeti is the Ulu Mosque on the shore of the Birecik dam lake. After the ruination of Rumkale during the Tanzimat period, the center of the Rumkale township was moved to Halfeti. The Ulu Mosque, which was built in the same period, had an important place in the development of the town. The building, also called the Merkez Mosque, is the first mosque to have been built in Halfeti. The current studies ignore the waqfiyya and other archive records of the mosque. Since the inscription of the building was broken, different evaluations were made about the date of construction. However, there is a need to determine exactly when this waqf work, which is important for the history and architecture of Halfeti, was built. The identity of the founder, Latifzâde Mehmed Efendi, and other people whose names are mentioned in the repair inscriptions are other matters that need to be revealed. The aim of this study based on archival records is to reveal the historical development of Halfeti Ulu Mosque throughout the Ottoman period in detail through its patron, inscriptions, repairs, endowments and 19th century photographs.
