The aim of this study was to investigate the seroprevalence of N. caninum, an apicomplexan protozoan parasite, in goats raised in Polatlı district of Ankara province. For this purpose, blood samples were collected from the jugular vein of 150 goats in Polatlı district. The seras obtained from the collected blood samples were analysed using a commercial ELISA kit. As a result of serological analyses 9 out of 150 blood serum samples examined (6%) were found to be seropositivity for the presence of N. caninum. It was determined that all of the seropositivity samples belonged to female goats aged one year and above. When evaluated according to breeds, the positivity rate was determined as 8.3% (n=7) in Angora goats and 3% (n=2) in Hair goats. However, according to the obtained data, no statistically significant difference was found between breeds in terms of N. caninum seropositivity (p>0.05). When compared according to age and gender, a statistically significant difference was found in terms of N. caninum seropositivity (p<0.05). In this study, N. caninum was detected serologically for the first time in goats of Polatlı region of Ankara. It is thought that N. caninum should be taken into consideration in goat abortions that may occur in the region and that protection and control measures against this parasite should be increased.
