This study
aims to draw attention to one aspect of the old-age phenomenon that has become
increasingly visible in Turkey, namely to elderly care and caregiving. The services
related to elderly care are increasingly becoming an informal employment area.
As the concentration of the demand for caregiver employment or service
procurement for elderly care increase, various problems/victimizations arise in
the relationship between the relatives of the elderly who are at the employer
position and the caregivers as employees. The study is based on data attained
with a qualitative research technique and aims to explore the problems and
victimizations experienced between caregivers and family members. 15 elderly
relatives and 15 elderly caregivers are interviewed. The interviews are recorded
with a voice recorder and the data is converted to text. Problems related to
reaching the caregivers, social rights, the ambiguity of the job definition,
maintenance burden and insufficient level of education are identified between
the elderly relatives and caregivers as major findings.
