MULTIDIMENSIONAL POVERTY ASSESSMENT SCALE PROPOSAL FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Öz

Poverty, which is defined as the state of being deprived of the opportunities required by life in terms of time and space, is much more important for university students who represent an important part of human capital. Student poverty has its dynamics. Before using the means of struggle, it is necessary to determine in which dimensions the poverty is concentrated. This study provides information on the development and validation of an original scale that can measure student poverty multidimensional and accurate. Scale development consists of 4 stages. In the first stage; An item pool was developed by identifying nine deprivation dimensions from literature review, main poverty measurement methods, student interviews and expert feedback. In the second stage, pilot studies were carried out by applying the developed expressions to the sample of university students. In the first pilot study, analyses could not be performed because the number of samples (95 student) was insufficient and did not allow rotation. In the second pilot study, 221 students were reached, the items were reviewed with explanatory factor analysis, and inappropriate factors were eliminated or combined. The scale produced in the third stage was applied to 1910 student from 27 universities throughout Turkey, and explanatory factor analysis was performed. In the fourth stage, to test whether the scale works, it was applied to 781 student at Sakarya University, and confirmatory factor analysis was repeated and finalized. Analyses were made using SPSS V24 and Amos programs. As a result, a practical scale with 51 items and 9 dimensions was developed. The developed scale potentially: (a) contribute to research on student poverty, (b) provides the opportunity to cross-assess student poverty with different components, (c) provides university administrations with a compelling map of combating student poverty

ÜNİVERSİTE ÖĞRENCİLERİ İÇİN ÇOK BOYUTLU YOKSULLUK TESPİT ÖLÇEĞİ ÖNERİSİ

Öz

Zaman ve mekân açısından yaşamın gerektirdiği imkânlardan yoksun kalma hali olarak tanımladığınızda yoksulluk, beşeri sermayenin önemli bir kısmını temsil eden üniversite öğrencileri için çok daha fazla önem arz eder. Öğrenci yoksulluğu kendine has dinamiklere sahiptir. Mücadele araçları kullanılmadan önce yoksulluğun hangi boyutlarda yoğunlaştığının tespit edilmesi gerekir. Bu çalışma öğrenci yoksulluğunu çok boyutlu ve doğru şekilde ölçebilecek orijinal bir ölçeğin geliştirilmesi ve doğrulanması hakkında bilgi vermektedir. Ölçek geliştirilmesi 4 aşamadan oluşmaktadır. Birinci aşamada; literatür taraması, merkezi yoksulluk ölçüm yöntemleri, öğrenci mülakatları ve uzman geri bildirimlerinden hareketle dokuz yoksunluk boyutu belirlenerek bir madde havuzu geliştirilmiştir. İkinci aşamada, geliştirilen ifadeler üniversite öğrencisi örneklemine uygulanarak pilot çalışmalar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Birinci pilot çalışmada örneklem sayısının (95 öğrenci) yetersiz olması nedeniyle rotasyona imkan sağlamadığı için analizler yapılamamıştır. İkinci pilot çalışmada 221 öğrenciye ulaşılmış, açıklayıcı faktör analizi ile maddeler yeniden gözden geçirilerek uygun olmayan faktörler elenmiş ya da birleştirilmiştir. Üçüncü aşamada üretilen ölçek Türkiye genelinde 27 üniversiteden 1910 öğrenciye uygulanıp açıklayıcı faktör analizine tabi tutulmuştur. Dördüncü aşamada ölçeğin çalışıp çalışmadığını test etmek için Sakarya Üniversitesi’nde 781 öğrenciye uygulanarak doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmış ve son hali verilmiştir. Analizler SPSS V24 ve Amos programları kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak 51 madde 9 boyutta etkili bir ölçek geliştirilmiştir. Geliştirilen ölçek potansiyel olarak (a) öğrenci yoksulluğu ile ilgili araştırmalara katkı sağlamaktadır (b) öğrenci yoksunluğuna farklı bileşenlerle çapraz değerlendirme imkânı sağlamaktadır (c) üniversite yönetimlerine öğrenci yoksulluğu ile etkin mücadele haritası sunmaktadır.
