Importance of Documentation in Carpets and Rugs Conservation and Designer’s Role

In our country, particularly along rural-urban migration process, starting with the technology development and space
to find widespread
use in everyday life, the society has undergone change in living standards and used items. This change produces products for daily use as people slowly started to leave the location of the serial productions. Therefore,
a period of customs, traditions
and products that reflect the culture kept disappearing. As a result
of this change
in the process of recording
and documentation is becoming increasingly important. All kinds of information collected about the deteriorated and corrupted carpets which
must be has a documentary value. The
purpose of documentation, from the scope of
protection of cultural assets and the creation
of an archive of the situation regularly
to ensure necessary
measures are taken. In this article, it is discussed the importance of taking under the carpet and plain fabrics record, process, that needs to be done at this stage, the designer’s role in this process, by the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts,
DEU,
in their educational programs.
