The Effect of Mycorrhiza Applications on Plant Growth and Some Stress Parameters in Cupressus arizonica "Glauca" Variety under Salt Stress Conditions
Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of the application of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) under salt stress conditions on growth and some stress parameters of Blue Cypress (Cupressus arizonica “Glauca”) in 2016.
Material and Methods: Four different concentrations [control (M0: no mycorrhiza), M1: 50 g da-1, M2: 100 g da-1 ve M3: 200 g da-1] of Glomus intraradices were tested on soil containing salt stress (S0:0 mMol and S1:100 mMol NaCl). After 6 months at first salt application, leaf total chlorophyll and carotenoids contents, leaf proline contents, MDA- malondialdehyde (lipid peroxidation), activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and peroksidaz (POX) were measured. At the end of the study, plant growth parameters such as shoot height, stem diameter, root length, dry and fresh weights of shoots and roots, also mycorrhizal colonization were investigated.
Results: Based on the results of the experiments, it is generally observed that saline condition had negative effects on Blue Cypress (Cupressus arizonica “Glauca”). Moreover, it was determined that 200 g da-1 mycorrhizal fungi positive effect on plant development and leaf total chlorophyll, carrotenoids and proline content, MDA, SOD, CAT and POX of Cupressus arizonica “Glauca” in saline conditions.
Conclusion: Mycorrhizal applications was eliminated the negative effect of salt 200 g da-1 Glomus intradices mycorrhizal fungi application was more favorable than the other mycorrhizal concentrations under salt stress. The concentration was affected some physiological and enzymatic events of plant and contributed to the continuation of development.
