Comparison of two different luteal phase progesterone supplementation on ART outcome

Abstract

Comparison of two different luteal phase progesterone supplementation on ARToutcome Providing hormonal supplementation during the lutealphase withprogesterone is widely used during assisted reproduction treatments (ART) in order to improve implantation andpregnancy rates. Objective : The aim of this study was to compare the effects of Progynex 50 mg and Crinone vaginal gel for luteal phase support on Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) outcome. 178 patients undergoing ICSI cycles were included in the study. Material and Methods: Patients were divided into two groups, first group using Crinone (n — 125) vaginally once a day and the second group using Progynex (n—53) 50 mg IM once a day. Results: Ongoing pregnancy rates were found as 39 % in the Crinone gel group and 45 % in the Progynex 50 mg group. Logistic regression analysis showed that Progynex 50 mg use did not increase the ongoing pregnancy rate compared to the Crinone gel use. Conclusion: According to our results both the two recommended regimens of luteal phase progesterone supplementation in ART have similar effects on ongoingpregnancy rate.

Yardımcı üreme tekniklerinde iki farklı luteal faz progesteron kullanımı karşılaştırılması

Öz

İmplantasyon ve gebelik oranlarını arttırması nedeniyle In Vitro Fertilizasyon (IVF) uygulamalarında luteal destek olarak progesteron, rutin olarak kullanılmaktadır. Progesteron kullanımının iki farklı yolu olan vajinal ve intra müsküler progesteron kullanımının gebelik oranları üzerine etkisini gösteren çalışmalar bulunmaktadır. Amaç: Çalışmamızda iki farklı progesteron kullanımının intrasitoplazmik sperm enjeksiyonu (ICSI) sonuçlarına etkisini araştırmayı amaçladık. Materyal ve Metod: Bu amaçla ICSI uygulanan 178 hasta çalışmaya alındı. Hastalar, progesteron kullanımına göre iki gruba ayrıldı. İlk grup, vajinal olarak günde bir kez Crinone jel kullanan 125 hastadan (n—125), ikinci grup ise günde bir kez IMolarak Progynex 50 mg kullanan 53 hastadan (n—53) oluşmaktadır. Bulgular: Gebelik oranı Crinone jel kullanan grupta %39 ve Progynex 50 mg kullanan grupta %45 olarak belirlendi. Lojistik regresyon analizleri, Progynex 50 mg kullanımının crinone jel kullanımına oranla gebeliği arttırmadığını gösterdi (OR: 0.81 %95 CI: 0.41-1.59). Sonuç: Bulgularımız doğrultusunda yardımcı üreme tekniklerinde luteal destek olarak ikifarklı şekildeprogesteron kullanımının gebelik oranları üzerinde benzer etkilere neden olduğu söylenebilir.
