Responsibilities of Teachers Working in Private Etude Training Center: A Case Study

Abstract

The purpose of this case study research is to describe the responsibilities of teachers working at “etude training center”. The data of the research were collected from four teachers, six students, two center administrators in a etude training center in Buca district in Izmir in the 2012-2013 academic year, and two parents. “Semi”-structured interviews, unstructured observation and document analysis were done throughout the study. Content analysis technique was used to analyze the data. The results yielded some themes related to the roles and responsibilities of teachers, such as “begining the lesson”, “motivating”, “activity”, “instructional methods and techniques”, “evaluation”, “time allocation” and “problem sharing”. The findings showed that the teachers describe their roles and responsibilities towards administrators as they care about entryexit time, they hold a meeting with administrators, follow up the students and have personal responsibilities; the teachers also have responsibilities towards parents as they need to have good communication and cooperate with parents, give information about their children and they feel responsible to teach well. In recent years, it is seen that teachers work at etude training centers are important for students’ school achievement and development as teachers in schools, and also have responsibilities
