Orhan Kemal’s novel Gurbet Kuşları is one of the important novels describing the phenomenon of migration. The novel, first published in 1962, is a sequel to the novel Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde, published in 1954. In the first İflahsızın Yusuf’s life in Çukurova is described, while in the second İflahsızın Memed, son of Yusuf’s life in İstanbul is discussed. İmportant usues in the novel include the increase in slums due to migration and the fact that corraption in the metropolitan area is easily accepted. İn İstanbul, where all kinds of people live, we see that the couple Memed and Ayşe find the class they live by developing themselves. The motion Picture of the some name, adapted from the novel, premiered on the White screen in 1964. The film describes the struggle o fa family of six, four of them children, who migrated to Istanbul from Kahramanmaraşto lead avbetter life. The people who failed in every job they entered were separated from one family, and the sister who fell down the bad path at the end found salvation in suicide. After this insident, the family returned to they hometown at the suggestion of their younger son. There are many differences between the novel and the film. In this article we will look at the novel and the film from a wide perspective, and as a result we will reveal the differences between them.
