Survey on Energy Drink Consumption and Awareness among University Students

Year 2010, Volume: 8 Issue: 5, 6 - 11, 01.10.2010

Abstract

Consumption of energy drinks among youth has increased in recent years. The main objective of this study is to survey energy drink consumption and awareness among university students. For this purpose, some sociodemographic features, daily life habits, energy drink consumption levels and frequency of students were determined. Also the student awareness about the information on the label of energy drinks, beliefs about probable health problems due to excessive consumption, warnings on labels were determined. The relationship between energy drinks consumption and some variables such as gender, monthly income, living habits was studied. A 42-itemquestionnaire was designed and applied to the students of Ege University. Results indicated that most of the students tasted energy drink at least once in their lifetimes and consumed energy drinks to overcome sleeping and in association with alcoholic drinks. Although they stated that they paid attention to the warnings on label and potential health problems, it was found that their awareness on energy drink consumption was not high enough

Üniversite Öğrencileri Arasındaki Enerji İçeceği Tüketimi ve Bilinci Araştırması

Year 2010, Volume: 8 Issue: 5, 6 - 11, 01.10.2010
