The Journal of Mediterranean Basin and African Civilisations (AKAF) is the scientific publication of the Mediterranean Basin and African Civilisations Research and Application Centre at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University. Launched in 2019 as an international e-journal, it is published twice a year—Spring (June) and Autumn (December)—as an international, peer-reviewed academic journal.
The journal is open access, and all submitted manuscripts are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process.
AKAF publishes original scholarly works at both national and international levels focusing on the languages, histories, literatures, arts, and cultures of Mediterranean and African countries with which Turkey has historical and cultural ties. While the journal considers research- and analysis-based studies from a range of disciplines in the social sciences and humanities relating to Mediterranean and African civilisations, it particularly welcomes contributions in the fields of international relations, political science, language, literature, translation studies, history, folklore, sociology, psychology, philosophy, anthropology, archaeology, art history, and related interdisciplinary areas. Submissions may be in Turkish or English, and book reviews are also accepted.
Our journal publishes academic studies covering a broad spectrum of topics related to the Mediterranean Basin and Africa, including history, culture, politics, economics, literature, sociology, and international relations. Academics, researchers, and specialists wishing to publish their original research in these fields are invited to submit their manuscripts.
The manuscript evaluation process is conducted under the principles of scientific research ethics and follows a blind peer review system. Articles submitted for publication must be prepared in accordance with the journal’s author guidelines.
