The Effect of STEM/STEAM and Robotic Coding Applications on 21st Century Skills: Document Analysis

Abstract

In today's information age, it is seen that interdisciplinary education models such as STEM / STEAM (STEM + Art) are also applied in addition to robotic coding trainings to provide individuals with various skills such as analysing information, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, innovation, communication and cooperation. In this context, the aim of this study is to analyse the postgraduate theses that examine the relationship between STEM / STEAM and robotic coding applications with 21st century learning and innovation skills. For this purpose, the postgraduate theses in the YÖK Thesis Centre database were classified on the basis of certain criteria and examined in thematic framework. Within the scope of the sample, a total of 112 thesis studies, 83 master's and 29 doctoral theses, which are suitable for the purpose of the study, were systematically analysed and the data were analysed by content analysis. According to the findings, it was determined that the studies were mostly completed in 2019 and 2023, the sample size was between 31-100, the participants were mostly secondary school students, the mixed research design was mostly preferred methodologically, and the effect of STEM/STEAM and robotic coding applications was mostly in the field of problem solving and creativity.
