Abstract

    Huzursuz bacak sendromu (HBS) bacaklarda hareket etme dürtüsü ile kendini
gösteren, şikayetlerin istirahatte arttığı, bacaklarda rahatsızlık veren
duyumlar ile karakterize uyku ilişkili bir hastalık olarak tanımlanmış nörolojik
duyusal-motor bir bozukluktur. Hastalığın primer (idiyopatik) HBS ve sekonder (semptomatik)
HBS olmak üzere iki formu vardır. İdiopatik form genetik ve kaynağı bilinmeyen
etyolojik nedenleri içerirken, sekonder formun çok çeşitli sebepleri olabilir.
Sekonder HBS’nin etiyolojik sebepleri değerlendirildiğinde %43’ ünün anemi ile
birlikte veya anemi olmaksızın sistemik demir eksikliği ilişkili olduğu tespit
edilmiştir. Bu yazıda; son 2 yılda 8 kez tam kan bağışında bulunan ve ferritin düşüklüğüne
atfedilen sekonder HBS‘ lu bir olgumuzu sunduk.

Overlooked Clinical Presentation of Iron Deficiency; Restless Leg Syndrome

Abstract

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common sleep related neurological
sensory-motor disorder which is characterized by uncomfortable and unpleasant
sensations in the legs, worsening of complaints during periods of rest that
manifests as an irresistible urge to move the body to relieve the uncomfortable
sensations. The RLS includes two groups in general: primary (idiopathic) RLS
and secondary RLS. While the idiopathic group includes unknown genetics and
etiological causes, the secondary group may have a variety of etiological
causes. When the etiological causes of secondary RLS were evaluated, it was
found that 43% were associated with systemic iron deficiency with or without
anemia. In this text; we presented a secondary RLS attributed to low ferritin
level in a case who had donated whole blood 8 times in the last 2 years.
